Alexandra Mauriello is a designer, writer, and independent researcher whose work explores the intersections of material culture, visual communication, subculture, and collective memory. Drawing from practices of collecting, publishing, and archiving, she is interested in how objects, images, and aesthetic systems shape social experience and construct meaning over time
Her research interests include contemporary design theory, visual history, music and dance cultures, tattooing, urban memory, and the cultural significance of ephemera. She is particularly drawn to the visual languages that emerge within communities, from rave flyers and record sleeves to tattoo flash, postcards, books, and independent publications. She is especially interested in curatorial research, editorial design, and narrative frameworks within cultural institutions and design-driven environments.
Raised in the American South, her work is also informed by Appalachian mountain culture, regional folklore, and a longstanding interest in the natural world. Through both research and lived experience, she explores the relationship between landscape, memory, and place, drawing inspiration from time spent hiking, collecting, and observing natural order and evolution.
